SHANNON + COLT || A Steel Blue and Burgundy Winter Wedding at Texas Old Town

Dec 3, 2020

At the end of the night, Shannon and Colt drove off in Colt’s truck – the same truck they took to prom together years ago. They’re seriously the cutest.

We are SO excited to share Shannon + Colt’s Wedding blog with you! But first, a quick story.

One of the ideas we hold very close as wedding photographers, is to always do our best to help our couples embrace the experience of getting married.

Every wedding day has its surprises (some might say challenges).

At our wedding, the getaway car stalled out and died right after the grand exit, leaving us stranded in front of the reception hall. But one of our bridesmaids started pushing the car down the driveway to keep our exit going, all while still carrying her red solo cup in one hand.

Our photographer snapped a photo, and it became one of our favorite images from the whole day (and a story we’ve told countless times over the years).

That was our first lesson in embracing the wedding day experience, and it’s a lesson we’ve seen play out at dozens of weddings. The couples who do this have a much more joyous wedding day, because they don’t miss out on the sweet moments in favor of stressing over the surprises (challenges). Instead, they embrace the day, the WHOLE day, and soak in every moment of it while it lasts.

Shannon and Colt perfectly embody this idea! They got married this past Saturday at the Tejas Hall at Texas Old Town in Kyle, and if you were anywhere in Central Texas this past weekend, you know that Saturday was cold, wet and RAINY.

But Shannon and Colt couldn’t have been more zen. After solving what was probably a dozen last minute challenges caused by the weather, these two focused on what was truly important: celebrating the start of their marriage with family, friends and each other.

We honestly couldn’t have been more impressed by them. Shannon was the perfect bride – elegant and kind and beautiful, and so clearly adored by her family, her bridesmaids, and everyone in attendance.

Colt – the perfect gentlemen – the type of guy who leaves his own wedding reception to walk his grandparents out to their car when they leave, because he truly honors and cares for them.

Speaking of the reception, this was a FUN group of people, and the celebration soon turned into a dance party that we had a blast photographing! Special shout-out to one groomsmen, who used his adorable daughter as an air guitar to help him perform the solo from “Don’t Stop Believing” (picture below). It was awesome!

At the end of the night, Shannon and Colt did one of the most fun and unique exits we’ve seen so far (bonus points if you can guess what the guests are throwing) and drove off into the night in Colt’s truck – the same truck they took to prom together years ago. They’re seriously the cutest.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this day possible! Colette (the sweetest Mother of the Bride), Jordan, Lindsay, Clarissa (another L+L Bride!!) , Laurel, Cody and the whole wedding party (especially Johnny and Carson, the greatest ring bearers ever!) – you guys are amazing and we’re thankful for you!

To Shannon and Colt, congratulations on being married!!  Thank you for embracing the experience on your wedding day, and for just being the great people you are. We are so honored we got to spend your wedding day with you, and so impressed by the care and love you show each other. It’s clear to us that no matter what kind of stormy weather life throws at you in the future, you two will be able to take it in stride together as husband and wife!

With all the love,

L+L
